Canva will not upload a font: check access, file format, and the exported text

Identify which stage is failing

Keep an unchanged design copy and the original font package. Use a disposable text sample with the letters, punctuation, and weights your real project needs. A font name appearing in the editor is not enough to approve it for delivery.

If the upload control is missing

Canva's Brand Kit font guide lists Pro, Teams, Business, Education, and Nonprofits for font uploads. On desktop it documents Brand > select a Brand Kit > Fonts > Add to category > Upload a font.

Check that you are in the intended team and kit before treating the control as broken. If access is denied, ask the kit owner or administrator to check your role. Canva's help pages describe eligible roles differently, so the permission shown in your actual workspace matters; we do not assume every team member can upload.

An uploaded font can also belong to a different Brand Kit. Confirm the kit before uploading another copy or changing an existing shared font.

If Canva rejects the file

Canva's font-error guide documents OTF, TTF, and WOFF support and a file-size requirement below 15 MB. ZIP and WOFF2 are not supported uploads in that guide.

Changing an extension does not convert the underlying font. Keep the supplied filenames while diagnosing the error. Canva also requires embedding permission; a purchase receipt alone does not tell us what your particular license permits. Ask the provider when the permitted use is unclear, rather than trying to bypass the restriction.

If upload succeeds but the design looks wrong

Apply the uploaded font to your small sample, then download it in the format your real delivery needs. Compare the actual words, accented characters, punctuation, and line wrapping with the editor. Check each required weight separately.

Canva notes that a font can upload successfully yet render incorrectly, including missing letters after download. If this happens, preserve the failing sample and try a supported alternative in the copy. Do not bulk-replace the original shared Brand Kit font until you know how the change affects existing designs.

For soft text without missing characters, use our blurry-download checks; export dimensions are a separate question from font compatibility.

Escalate with a useful sample

Follow the help links in Canva's font-error page with the exact error, plan, role, file extension and size, browser, and whether failure occurs during upload or download. Share a minimal non-confidential design. Do not redistribute the font file publicly when its license does not allow that.
