After Effects missing fonts: restore the intended text before exporting

Preserve the original design first

Save a project copy and capture the missing-font names from the warning. Include the style, such as Regular, Medium, or Italic; installing a different member of the family may not resolve the request.

If you received a template or project from someone else, ask for the font's identity and an image of the intended title. Avoid saving a substitute over the only project copy before you have compared the result. Adobe explains that After Effects can use default fonts when an unavailable typeface cannot be resolved in its text-layer documentation.

Check the Creative Cloud installation state

Open Creative Cloud desktop and confirm that you are signed in with the account that should provide the font. Keep the app running while adding fonts, and confirm that the computer has internet access.

For a font already listed in Creative Cloud, open Fonts > Added fonts. If Install family is offered, use it, or install the specific style you need. Adobe's installation guide separates the added-font list from the installation action. A font visible in an online collection is not enough to establish that the needed desktop style is ready.

Return to After Effects. If the font menu or warning has not updated, save your work and restart the application. Reopen the project copy and check whether the original font is now resolved.

If installation reports an error

Read the error shown for that font before changing system settings. A duplicate-name conflict and a network interruption require different investigation. Adobe's font troubleshooting guide explains account, installation-status, and Creative Cloud service checks.

Do not delete all system fonts, font caches, or Adobe settings folders as a first response to one missing typeface. On a managed work computer, involve the administrator if font services or installation permissions are restricted.

If the typeface is not in Adobe Fonts

Check the original foundry or an authorized source. A Creative Cloud subscription does not mean every font used in a downloaded project is included. Adobe's missing-font guidance describes obtaining unavailable fonts from their legitimate providers.

If you choose a substitute, inspect line breaks, paragraph boxes, alignment, and text animation across the full shot. Review long titles and numbers separately. A font that fits a short word may overflow elsewhere. Ask the client or designer to approve a brand-font substitution before delivery.

If the warning persists
