Photoshop fonts are missing: restore the right family before replacing text
Separate an Adobe Fonts activation problem from a missing local font, then check the layout before exporting.
Start by identifying the missing font family and style, then check whether it comes from Adobe Fonts or a separate local installation. Avoid accepting a replacement immediately: a file can open successfully while its text wraps differently from the approved design.

Photoshop desktop on Windows and macOS. Adobe Fonts checks require Creative Cloud desktop and the account that provides the font access. This does not cover Photoshop web or mobile.
Preserve the layout before troubleshooting
Save a separate PSD and keep any approved PDF or image for comparison. Note the affected text layers and the exact font weights: having the regular face does not establish that a bold or italic face is available.
Treat these as two different symptoms:
- The document identifies a missing font. Follow the activation or replacement route below.
- The font is installed but you cannot find it in a menu. Check its family name and style grouping before reinstalling anything.
When the font comes from Adobe Fonts
Photoshop can activate missing Adobe Fonts when it is online. A syncing indicator on the text layer means activation is still underway. If editing that layer brings up a replacement prompt, canceling lets activation continue instead of substituting another face.
Open Creative Cloud desktop and confirm that it is running, signed in, and using the expected Adobe account. In its Fonts area, inspect the specific family and style for an installation error. Record the error rather than repeatedly adding the same family.
Adobe's font troubleshooting guidance distinguishes interrupted downloads, account issues, and an already-installed font with the same name. Those are more useful starting points than deleting every font cache. On an organization-managed device, ask IT about blocked background services or font policies before changing them. When the font is present under another name
Search by the family name without assuming the foundry prefix will appear. Applications can group styles and display font names differently. Check the style selector as well as the family list.
If Creative Cloud shows the font as added but the application menu has not refreshed, save your work and restart the application. Compare the name against the font's listing before treating a naming difference as a failed installation. Adobe's font menu guidance
When the original font is unavailable
For a non-Adobe font, obtain the correct, licensed font from its legitimate source or ask the project owner which replacement is approved. Photoshop's Type > Manage Missing Fonts lets you choose replacements; it does not prove that a substitute has matching metrics.
Work through affected headings, body text, numbers, and symbols. Check line breaks, clipping, alignment, and text that now extends outside its box. Export a comparison copy before replacing the deliverable.
If the problem persists
Send Adobe Support the Photoshop and Creative Cloud versions, operating system, font family and style, and the visible activation error. Share a minimal example with sensitive text removed. A screenshot of the font warning is more useful than a flattened image of the artwork alone.
