CapCut desktop has no sound: compare the source, preview, and saved video

Find the first stage where the sound disappears

Keep the project and source media intact. Use a new filename for comparison exports so you do not overwrite the last usable delivery. Our proposed three-stage comparison is a diagnosis aid, not a result from an app test.

Record the result for one identifiable sound

Choose a spoken word or sound effect whose location you know. Do not compare unrelated moments in different players.

A single player's result is not conclusive. Check that your chosen headphones or speakers play another known-good file before changing project-wide audio levels.

If the timeline is silent

Select the affected video or audio clip and inspect Volume in the right-hand panel. Check whether the clip or track is muted and whether the playhead is actually over that audio. CapCut documents these checks in its audio playback help.

Compare one clip you know contains sound with the affected clip. If only the latter fails, investigate that source rather than raising every track. CapCut identifies absent source audio and format compatibility among the possible causes; the same symptom does not identify which one applies.

Do not delete and recreate the entire audio arrangement as your first experiment. Preserve the edit while testing one change, then replay the same passage.

If preview works but the saved file is silent

Confirm you opened the newly exported video, then try it in another suitable player. If it remains silent, create a separate small comparison project using a non-confidential clip with known audible sound. Export that to a distinct filename and record the settings shown in your installed version.

If the small project has sound, inspect the original project's affected tracks and export configuration. If both are silent, collect those results for support. Avoid assuming an Export audio control means the same thing in every release; a separate audio-file export is not evidence that the video contains sound.

If only the uploaded post is silent

CapCut's post-upload sound guide distinguishes local playback from TikTok muting. Check the platform's actual notice before assuming a copyright action. Do not repeatedly change export settings when the local file is audible, or assume that availability in an editor establishes permission for every destination.
